A LETTER FROM ENVERA SECURITY

Picture

There have been multiple inquiries regarding Driver's License Scanning at Envera kiosks as it related to Florida Statue 322.143. The statute prohibits capturing information from a driver's license through "swiping" the magnetic strip or bar code. The definition of the word swipe as defined by the statute is “the act of passing a driver license or identification card through a device that is capable of deciphering, in an electronically readable format, the information electronically encoded in a magnetic strip or bar code on the driver license or identification card.”

We wanted to take this opportunity to reassure everyone that Envera took the necessary steps to discuss this statute with our legal team prior to implementing the license scanning technology. Since Envera does not utilize any technology that captures information from license magnetic strips or bar codes, Envera is fully compliant with the statute.

The license scanners that we employ take a snapshot (an electronic photocopy or scan) of the front of the license in order to cross reference the name and picture of the person sitting at the kiosk with the registered residents and visitors of a specific community. You can read more about our system vs. other systems as it relates to driver’s license scanning here: https://enverasystems.com/keep-your-community-safe-from-the-controversy-of-license-swiping/. If a visitor chooses not to put their license into our scanner, we would then follow the instructions provided by the community as far as turning away the visitor or allowing entry based on some other means of verification.

If you have any questions related to your community and this statute, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,
Crystal Clark
Director of Marketing & Sales Support
